  • The main objective of Sakia.org is to build capacity in science and engineering by means of information-sharing through publicly accessible quality information, free on-line applications and professional communications and discussions in the area of 'land and water'. Sakia.org has been designed to provide the necessary framework and facilities allowing to exchange, create, publish, print and reprint information of technical and scientific significance. Sakia.org is independent and open and not bound to specific organisations, institutions, publishers or regions. There are numerous services currently provided through the Sakia.org framework as listed further down on this page.

  • The Virtual Library Irrigation & Hydrology - a thematic catalogue and repository of full text online publications freely accessible @ Sakia.org.

 

Objective:

  • The main objective of the Virtual Library Irrigation and Hydrology is to increase the amount of dedicated and quality controlled knowledge available on-line and accessible for free by providing the supply and access framework mainly for information not yet published on-line elsewhere. On-line information is supplemented by references to valuable external sources. The VL has been operational since 1995. All documents are published on-line and in full text. They are thematically categorised, indexed and searchable in entirety. No fees apply to end users.

  • IRRIGATION-L is a professional discussion and exchange list based on free and open professional information-sharing

 

Objective:

  • The main objective of IRRIGATION-L is to support the national and international irrigation community and industry by providing a dedicated information and exchange service intended for discussions in the wider field of irrigation theory and practice. IRRIGATION-L is one of the two oldest and major email discussion lists in the wider field of irrigation world wide. It was established in 1994 and has been active ever since.

 

Involvement:

  • Anyone may participate in IRRIGATION-L discussions and join the information exchange of the list community by subscribing to the list and only an email address is required. Subscribing is a process of joining the discussion list by registering one's email address with the list server so that messages may be received from and sent to the list and its members. This service is totally free of change. Some nominal fee may apply only if documents need to be shared with list members online and would need more extensive preparations for online publishing as to [02], [04], [05] or [06].

Software & online applications

  • IRRISOFT - Database and on-line applications in irrigation, drainage & hydrology @ Sakia.org.

  • The main objective of the IRRISOFT service is to provide freely accessible quality controlled software descriptions, reviews, download facilities as well as on-line versions of applications in the wider field of irrigation, drainage and hydrology. It is a service predominantly for software packages which are available free of charge to the end user or where the price is limited to contributions towards expenses.   • The main objective of Sakia.org e-publish is to provide an open access publishing framework allowing for the publishing of journals, papers and other materials of technical and scientific significance in the area of 'land and water'.

 

Involvement:

  • Sakia.org e-publish may assist scientists, working groups, institutions and organisations with the creation and hosting of new technical or scientific series or single publications thematically aligned with the scope of the publisher and Sakia.org. All documents published by Sakia.org e-publish are freely accessible on-line from the Sakia.org website. No fees apply to end users. Publishing fees will be charged to the submitting authors or their organisation and will be determined on a case to case basis. A quote will be given prior to commencement of any work.

  • The objective of the e-Journal of Land and Water (eJLW) is to publish scientific papers of international significance covering basic, applied and strategic research in the area of land and water. The journal is being published under the general principles of open access, which means the articles published in it will be available on-line free of charge to the end user.

 

Involvement:

  • Manuscripts are only accepted when submitted electronically through the authors gateway. Processing fees apply on submission and are non-refundable. Page fees will be charged to authors or their organisation if the manuscript has been accepted for publication.

Sponsoring & donations program

  • Sakia.org is a widely used free and independent information and communication service in the area of 'land and water'. It is well established since 1994/95 and frequently visited by professionals from the national and international arena from more than 160 countries and territories worldwide.

 

Objective:

  • Sakia.org relies on external funding for its operation. Costs evolve not only from server hard and software, maintenance and access, but to a great extent also from time involved in content acquisition, screening, reviewing, management, preparation of content and communications within and outside the community.

 

Involvement:

  • Supporters are invited to actively foster the Sakia.org initiative through the sponsoring program. Entries are categorised according to the type of contribution into PLATINUM, GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE, providing scaled space for the organisation or company details.

  • Charges apply for the submission of news items such as job advertisements, conference announcements etc. which are distributions per email and published online. Submissions are subject to screening and may be declined.
